Staff Picks: Big Ten Tournament

Due to site maintenance, this article that was written earlier is just now being posted. Sorry for the inconvenience. Last week’s picks came down to the final game of the week, and Nebraska’s win over Wisconsin made me victorious, keeping me undefeated for the season. I finished the week with 7 wins, and every other writer on staff finished with 6. Other than the Nebraska pick, picking Penn State over Northwestern was crucial in my victory. I would also like to extend a shout out to staff writer Shaun for picking 6 games correctly, but never picking Michigan to win. I think his pride got the best of him last week. I want to take this opportunity to extend an apology to Illinois and Northwestern, not a single writer picked them on their win this week. Keep on proving us wrong boys!

Sammy B’s Picks:

First Round Winners-

Indiana – Ohio State – Minnesota – Iowa

Sorry Purdue and Northwestern, I see your season ending in the first round. I just don’t think either team has enough fire power to pull off the upset. The 8-9 game and 7-10 game was much tougher to decide though. With that said, Indiana and Minnesota seem to have the talent to beat anybody in conference. I could see one of those teams making a serious run at extending their season by winning the Big Ten Tournament.

Quarterfinal Winners-

Indiana – Nebraska – Wisconsin – Michigan State

Like I said above, Indiana has all the talent in the world. However, the only way they make the tournament is by winning this one. Michigan already has locked up a high seed and a stellar season, since Indiana is playing for their life I think they come out flying high and pull off the upset. I think all the other higher seeds will hold serve. Michigan State defeated Iowa handily on senior night, I don’t see why the Big Ten Tournament would be any different.

Semifinal Winners-

Nebraska – Michigan State

I think Nebraska is one of the most underrated teams in the country. Lunardi had them at an 11 seed last week despite finishing 4 in the Big Ten. They keep proving people wrong for doubting them, Petteway and crew will continue this trend in the Big Ten Tournament. Michigan State Wisconsin games are always tough, hard nosed games. Michigan State needs to be playing well in the tournament to show they are clicking on all cylinders before the NCAA Tournament. I think this added pressure will force State to play their best, and the Spartans will be clicking at the right time of the season…again.

Champion-

Nebraska

Nebraska will play this tournament with a chip on their shoulder. No matter how much they keep winning they keep getting disrespected. Petteway is one of the top players in the conference, and he will come out ready to prove it. Nebraska is going to take this opportunity to improve their seeding for the NCAA Tournament and officially show they have arrived in the Big Ten.
