Staff Picks: Big Ten Basketball week 2-24

Tuesday night:

20 Iowa @ Minnesota

Andrew- Iowa
Sammy- Iowa

Minnesota seems to be playing their way out of the big dance with recent losses to Illinois at home and a blow-out loss to Ohio State.

Indiana @ 14 Wisconsin

Andrew- Wisconsin
Sammy- Wisconsin

Indiana did the impossible earlier this season by beating Wisconsin. The win snapped 12 straight losses to the Badgers. I can’t see a season sweep.

Wednesday night:

16 Michigan @ Purdue

Andrew- Michigan
Sammy- Michigan

Purdue has virtually nothing to play for, and Michigan has everything to play for. If they win out they win the Big Ten title, and I don’t think Purdue is going to be the team to stop that dream. Plus, Michigan fans get on me every time I don’t pick them.

Nebraska @ Illinois

Andrew- Nebraska
Sammy- Nebraska

Nebraska is the surprise team in the Big Ten this season, and they look to be the 6 team that will be dancing from the conference. Tim Miles has made a strong statement for coach of the year this season, and I don’t think he plans on damaging that with a loss to, currently tied for last place, Illinois.

Thursday night:

22 Ohio State @ Penn State

Andrew- Ohio State
Sammy- Ohio State

Ohio State seems to be turning it on at the end of the season; they are winners of their last 3. I think Craft and his teammates want revenge for that incredible overtime win Penn State had in Columbus earlier this season.

20 Iowa @ Indiana

Andrew- Iowa
Sammy- Indiana

Indiana has a very talented young roster. These freshmen seem to be coming into their own as the season progresses. They’ve proven they can beat anybody at home, why not Iowa?

Saturday:

Illinois @ 18 Michigan State

Andrew- Michigan State
Sammy- Michigan State

MSU has a week to prepare for a home game against 4-10 (conference) Illinois team. I have to go with the Spartans on this one.

Northwestern @ Nebraska

Andrew- Nebraska
Sammy- Nebraska

Northwestern surprised some teams early with their great defensive play. However, as of late, teams seem to be figuring out their defense and finding more success scoring against them. Nebraska only has 1 home loss this season, and that’s to first place Michigan by 1 point.

Purdue @ 20 Iowa

Andrew- Iowa
Sammy- Iowa

Hammons is a hit or miss type of player. When he’s playing well this Purdue team is tough to beat, but even with a good Hammons I don’t know if Purdue has enough to go into Iowa City and leave with a win.

Sunday:

14 Wisconsin @ Penn State

Andrew- Wisconsin
Sammy- Wisconsin

With a strong finish to the season some believe Wisconsin could still earn a 1 seed in the tournament. Wisconsin seems to have found the right mojo again and I don’t expect Penn State to steal it away from them.

22 Ohio State @ Indiana

Andrew- Indiana
Sammy- Ohio State

Indiana has all the talent to win this game, but with 3 games in one week I don’t see that happening. Ohio State has won 3 in a row coming into this week and I expect they’ll make it 5 in a row after Penn State and Indiana.
