Michigan State traveled to Iowa looking to rebound from a tough loss against Notre Dame two weeks ago. Coming off the bye week, the players were fresh and the injuries were healed. The game started out like any other Michigan State game this season. The defense forced a quick 3 and out and the offense responded by getting a first down but the drive stalled 3 plays later resulting in a Mike Sadler punt. The next drive was a lot better, but it resulted in a missed field goal by true freshman Michael Geiger. Geiger did bounce back from that missed field goal to make his next 4 attempts with ease. State held an early 10-0 lead and it looked like the Spartans would run away with it. Iowa could not move the ball in the first quarter. The Hawkeyes didn’t record their first first down of the game until the second quarter. Iowa took advantage of a corner blitz by Darqueze Dennard and leaked the running back into the flat and got the matchup they were looking for, running back against a line backer. The QB for Iowa dropped the ball off to the running back and he was gone for a 40 yard TD run. After another TD drive from Iowa right before the half, Michigan State found themselves trailing at halftime 14-10. Michigan State responded right out of the gate and drove down the field for a TD to take the lead and the Spartans never looked back.

Connor Cook had his best game of the season, throwing for 2 touchdowns and completing 25-44 passes for 277 yards. MacGarrett Kings had a great game as well recording 5 catches for 94 yards and a touchdown and a 30 yard punt return. Bennie Fowler also had a career game recording 9 catches for 92 yards and a touchdown.

The defense played a great game once again. Darqueze Dennard had 2 interceptions and played a great game. The defensive line and linebackers completely shut down the running attack for the Hawkeyes only allowing 23 yards on the ground.

The Spartans head back to East Lansing next week for a homecoming date with the Indiana Hoosiers.
