The Michigan State Spartans received 95 votes but were slated at No. 26 just outside the Top 25 in the preseason Associated Press Poll, released Saturday morning.

AP Poll

The Spartans will play five Top 25 teams, four of which are Big Ten opponents.

No. 14 Notre Dame on Sept. 21, No. 18 Nebraska on Nov. 16, and No. 22 Northwestern on Nov. 23 on the road and No. 17 Michigan at Spartan Stadium on Nov. 12.

No. 23 Wisconsin is the lone Big Ten school in the Top 25 the Spartans will not play. Last season the Spartans beat the Badgers in Madison 16-13, avenging their 42-39 2011 Big Ten Championship Game defeat.

Defending NCAA and Southeastern Conference champions Alabama claimed the No. 1 spot and are joined by five other SEC teams in the Top 25: No. 5 Georgia, No. 6 South Carolina, No. 7 Texas A&M, No. 10 Florida, and No. 12 LSU.

The Pac-12 and Big Ten tied for second with the most teams in the Top 25 with five.

No. 3 Oregon, No. 4 Stanford, No. 21 UCLA, No. 24 USC, and No. 25 Oregon State represent the Pac-12.

The Spartans start the season at home on Friday, Aug. 30 against Western Michigan at 8:00 p.m. ET (BTN/BTN2Go).
