Michigan State Football: Max Bullough named Big Ten Player to Watch

Michigan State senior linebacker Max Bullough has been named to the Big Ten preseason Players to Watch list, selected by the medial panel attending the Big Ten’s football media days. The watch list features 10 student-athletes, with five players from the Legends and Leaders Divisions.

Bullough is joined by Big Ten Legends opponents Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner and offensive tackle Taylor Lewan, Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez, and Northwestern running back Venric Mark.

The Leaders Division is represented by Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller, Ohio state cornerback Bradly Rob, Ohio State linebacker Ryan Shazier, Penn State wide receiver Allen Robinson, and Wisconsin linebacker Chris Borland.

The Traverse City, Mich., native has also been named to five national award preseason watch lists: Bednarik Award (defensive player of the year), Bronko Nagurski Trophy (nation’s best defensive player), Dick Butkus Award (top collegiate linebacker), Lombardi Award (college lineman of the year), and Lott IMPACT Trophy (defensive impact player of the year).

Bullough will enter his third season as Michigan State’s starting linebacker. The 6-foot-3, 242 pound Bullough led the Spartans for the second-straight year with 111 tackles (51 solo, 60 assists), ranking him ninth in the Big Ten. He was also tied for ninth in the Big Ten for his 12.5 tackles for loss (45 yards). The preseason All-America selection by Phil Steele’s College Football Preview (second team) has 223 tackles, including 21 for losses (77 yards) and 6.5 sacks (41 yards), in 40 career games for the Spartans.

Bullough and the Spartans report to East Lansing on Friday, Aug. 3 before beginning preseason practice the next day.

The 2013 season is scheduled to kickoff on Friday, Aug. 30 against Western Michigan of the Mid-American Conference on the Big Ten Network at 8 p.m. ET.
