Michigan State Spartans Stay in Big Ten Title Running

Spartan Nation is celebrating tonight after the Michigan State Spartans win 58-43 against the Wisconsin Badgers to stay in the running for the Big Ten Title. Adreian Payne hit the floor hard after a failed dunk, but still managed to grab the offensive rebound before calling a time out. Tom Izzo was right there and gave him a huge hug. It looked like a painful fall, for sure. All in all, the guys played well tonight, but it wasn’t hard to look good when Wisconsin was looking so weak.

The Badgers had turnover after turnover in the second half, where it almost seemed as though the Spartans were teaching them how to play basketball. A good portion of the shots the Badgers took missed – in fact, they only shot at 7%, and they went seven minutes without scoring.

Kieth Appling bounced back from a series of games where he seemed to have just lost his mojo. It was great to see him out on the floor grinning when he made that first three-pointer that sent him on a streak to score a total of 19 points during the game. Travis Trice had  an incredible three-point shot just before the end of the first half.

For the entire game, the Spartans held their lead – leading by much as 23 points. They will still have to face the Northwestern Wildcats on Sunday. That will be another wild game.

Meanwhile, the Michigan State Spartan women will be taking on the Michigan Wolverines tomorrow night in the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament. Let’s continue to  cheer on our East Lansing teams!
