In the quarter finals, the Michigan State Spartans womens basketball team is going up against the Michigan Wolverines in game 8 of the 2013 Big Ten Tournament. Last night, the Wolverines defeated the Indiana Hoosiers 67-40 to bring the women to the next round of tournament action. The Spartans are 14-17 all time for their previous 18 trips to the Big Ten Tournament. Trips began in 1995. This is only the second time that the Hoosiers will not be an opponent. Michigan State has led the all-time series against the Wolverines 61-16, and they have won the 20 games out of 22 against the Ann Arbor team. MSU lost to the Wolverines 70-69 in their last meeting. The possible Spartans starting lineup will be:
- Kiana Johnson
- Jasmine Thomas
- Klarissa Bell
- Courtney Schiffauer
- Becca Mills
with Annalise Pickrel, Jasmine Hines, and Akyah Taylor as key reserves. Michigan State’s defense has been on fire this season (in fact Suzy Merchant is currently talking about MSU’s ability to keep the opposing team out of the paint), and they go into the 2013 Big Ten Tournament with a 22-7 overall and 10-6 conference play record. The Wolverines go into the tournament 20-9 overall and 9-7 in conference play.
The winner of tonight’s game will play the Penn State Nittany Lady Lions tomorrow in Game 10 of the 2013 Big Ten Tournament.
I would be thrilled if the Spartan women went all the way.
Go Green! Go White!
