Green and White Today: Michigan State Spartans News for February 18, 2013

What a weekend! The Michigan State Spartans beat the Nebraska Cornhuskers in a game where they never gave up the lead 73-64 on Saturday. Baseball season has started. A certain freshman basketball player was named “Freshman of the Week.” Here’s what’s been going on around East Lansing, and the schedule for this week’s games.

  • Gary Harris has been named Freshman of the Week yet again. This young Spartan has been tearing up the court and the charts. I would not at all be surprised if he goes down in history as one of the best players Michigan State has seen on the Breslin Center court.
  • While the men were victorious on Saturday, the women lost against the Michigan Wolverines by one point (70-69). That’s too bad after the run that MSU has had against the Ann Arbor team.
  • The baseball team is off to a start this season. In the season opener against the Furman Paladins, the team lost 4-3. In their game against the Northwestern Wildcats, the Spartans won 7-4. The Saturday game, which was scheduled to take place against the Miami Redhawks, was cancelled with no plans to reschedule.
  • Winter conditioning for the Michigan State Spartans football team has begun. The winter conditioning program will continue until spring training begins in mid-March.
  • The Spartans won 4-2 against the Northern Michigan Wildcats in Saturday’s hockey game. This was a split on the series, as the team lost 5-3 on Friday night.
