Super Bowl Sunday 2013 is just around the corner. For Michigan State Spartans fans, that means that there will be no basketball games on Sunday. But it also means more than that. There are a few former Spartans that will be making their way into Super Bowl 2013, and the NFL draft is coming up soon.
Two former MSU Spartans just finished up their rookie season with the San Francisco 49ers. These are tight end Garrett Celek and safety Trenton Robinson. Celek was a three year letterwinner during his time at Michigan State, and you can bet he’s been working hard in his rookie year. He played in 38 career games with 12 starts, and he has done a fabulous job in San Francisco – it’s not every day your team makes it to the Super Bowl during your rookie year! Robinson only played in the first three 49ers games of the season, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t add to the team. He’s been working hard to make his own mark in the San Francisco team, and sometimes being part of a team means you need to do so from the sidelines during games.
The San Francisco 49ers aren’t the only team with former Spartans involved. The Baltimore Ravens also have a former Spartan in their midst. Defensive Coordinator Dean Pees was a Defensive Coordinator under Mark Dantonio’s supervision from 1995-1997. This year’s trip to New Orleans signifies his third trip to the Super Bowl as a coach.
Kickoff for Super Bowl XVLII is at 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Who will you be cheering for in the NFL’s big game?
