No. 5 Notre Dame Outguns Michigan State Spartans 3-2

Despite being out shot 39-24 Michigan Statekept the game close losing 2-3.

The first period was the Spartans weakness. A slow start left them out shot 17-7 and trailing 0-1 after twenty minutes of play.

In the second period Michigan State out shot the Irish 11-9, however Notre Dame was able to pot 2 of their 9 shots, while Michigan State could only connect on one. Score was 3-1 Notre Dame after two.

The Spartans had the only goal of the third period, but failed to complete the comeback, and the game ended with the score favoring Notre Dame 3-2.

Sophomore forward Brent Darnell had the hot hands for Michigan State. He scored both Spartan goals, with the second one coming on the man advantage. Michigan State was 1/5 on power play oppurtunities. Notre Dame went 2/5.

Spartan hockey is now 4-9-2 overall and 3-7-1 in conference play. They desperately need to secure the split series tonight in their rematch against Notre Dame.
