Are there any Michigan State fans out there that would be interested in seeing the Spartans play against Texas Tech in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl on Dec. 29?
BTN.com blogger Tom Dienhart seems to think so because he projected this matchup Monday. The problem for the Spartans is that the team is not bowl eligible yet. Michigan State needs one more win to make it to the postseason, but that does not faze Dienhart.
“I think Michigan State (5-5) and Minnesota (5-4) will make it,” he wrote. “The Spartans are off this week before finishing vs. Northwestern and at Minnesota. The Golden Gophers may get their sixth win Saturday at Illinois. If not, it will come down to a trip to Nebraska and/or visit from Michigan State. That season-ending Gopher-Spartan game in Minneapolis may end up being a de facto bowl playoff game for each school.”
How scary would it be seeing that final scenario play out? Watching Michigan State and Minnesota in a loser-leaves-town game definitely would be interesting. However, it would be terrible for Big Ten fans hoping that the conference fills as many bowl slots as it can.
If Michigan State blows another lead as it did against Nebraska, none of this bowl chatter will even matter. It will be interesting, to say the least, watching the Spartans finish out the season.
