Michigan State footall: Beware of purple-shirt wearers Saturday in EL

Michigan State fans, do not feel alarmed if there are people in East Lansing wearing purple shirts this weekend.

With Northwestern on its open week, Wildcat fans have a sincere rooting interest in the Spartans this Saturday. Michigan State plays host to Nebraska and the Cornhuskers currently have a one-game lead, and own the tiebreaker, over Northwestern in the race to win the Legends Division.

Northwestern needs Nebraska to lose twice, and Michigan State could be the last team to give Nebraska an upset loss. The Huskers get Penn State at home next week, a mediocre Minnesota team at home the following week and will travel to Kinnick Stadium to on one of the worst Iowa teams in recent history. Nebraska would have to fall on its face to lose two games with that kind of a remaining schedule.

However, on the reverse side, it will be tough for the Wildcats to win out the rest of the season. Northwestern travels to Ann Arbor next weekend to take on a great Michigan team and then travels to East Lansing the following week to take on the Spartans. There is not a guarantee that Northwestern can win out the rest of its schedule at all.
