Michigan State football: No helmet stickers from ESPN this week for Spartans

ESPN Big Ten bloggers Brian Bennett and Adam Rittenberg did not give out any of their Week 8 helmet stickers to Michigan State football players this week. However, they did hand out stickers to two Michigan Wolverines who played important roles in U-M’s win over Michigan State Saturday. Kickers Brendan Gibbons and Matt Wile each received an accolade, and the bloggers cited:

Remember when Michigan’s kicking game was the worst in the Big Ten? Feels like a long time ago. The Wolverines needed their kickers to be perfect in a 12-10 win against rival Michigan State. Wile hit a 48-yarder on his first collegiate attempt in the second quarter, while Gibbons went 3-for-3 on his tries, including the game-winner from 38 yards out with five seconds left. Brunette girls are smiling all over Ann Arbor again.

It was funny how Michigan used two kickers in this game, something you would never see in an NFL game. Wile is Michigan’s long-range kicker and Gibbons is the short range, accuracy specialist. It’s unfortunate MSU’s Dan Conroy had such an awful game because his missed field goal could have iced the game away for the Spartans. The score would have been 13-12 at the very least.
