Local: No. 7 Notre Dame stops Stanford in OT, wins 20-13

Stanford at No. 7 Notre Dame – Notre Dame will hold on to its top-ten ranking in the AP Top 25 Poll for another week, as the Fighting Irish beat Stanford 20-13 Saturday with a defensive stop on fourth and goal in overtime.

The Irish outgained Stanford on offense, recording 334 total yards to the Cardinal’s 272. Everette Golson started the game at quarterback, but was replaced late in the contest by Tommy Rees. Rees completed all four of his passing attempts for 43 yards, and he also tossed the game-winning 7-yard touchdown to receiver TJ Jones. On the ground, Cierre Wood carried the ball 12 times for 66 yards and Theo Riddick gained 45 on as many carries. Tyler Eifert nabbed four receptions for 47 yards and a touchdown.

Stanford quarterback Josh Nunes completed 12 passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns and had a rather poor performance in South Bend on Saturday.

Notre Dame (6-0, 4-0 home) will host Brigham Young Oct. 20 at 3:30 p.m. ET.
