Michigan State football: ESPN College GameDay will be in East Lansing Sat.

ESPN College GameDay, the infamous college football pregame show on ESPN, is traveling to Spartan Stadium next Saturday and will be camping out for the Spartans’ 3:30 p.m. game against Ohio State.

I can’t say that I am surprised to hear that ESPN College GameDay will be in East Lansing next Saturday for the Michigan State football vs. Ohio State game. Last night, I thumbed through the schedule and wrote down three potential landing sites for GameDay, including East Lansing, and I knew there was no chance that ESPN would go anywhere else other than the games I picked.

I assumed GameDay would have camped out at West Virginia for the Baylor game, Nebraska for the Wisconsin game, or for Michigan State’s first Big Ten conference game. Obviously ESPN felt that Michigan State, Ohio State was the sexiest match up of the weekend.

MLive.com provided the following historical data related to College GameDay visiting East Lansing:

It will be just the second visit by College Gameday to East Lansing since 2005. The crew was in town for last season’s memorable 37-31 win over Wisconsin on Oct. 22.

The other four visits:

  • Nov. 9, 2005 — Penn State 22, Michigan State 21
  • Sept. 18, 2004 — Notre Dame 31, Michigan State 24
  • Oct. 9, 1999 — Michigan State 34, Michigan 31
  • Oct. 25, 1997 — Michigan 23, Michigan State 7
