Le’Veon Bell, Taylor Martinez are Big Ten offensive players of the week

Michigan State Spartans running back Le’Veon Bell won Big Ten offensive player of the week honors after running for a career-high 210 rushing yards and two touchdowns against the Boise State Broncos on Friday. Bell carried the ball for an amazing 44 times and also added six receptions for 55 yards.

Bell must share the title with Nebraska Cornhuskers quarterback Taylor Martinez, however, who also had an amazing weekend. Martinez passed for five touchdowns in a route against Southern Mississippi.

The Spartans will benefit from having Bell carrier the ball all season because of how he wears down opposing defenses. I suspect that he will win multiple Big Ten offensive player of the week awards as he will face plenty of poor defenses this year in the conference.

This coming Saturday the Spartans will travel to Mount Pleasant, Mich. to square off against the Central Michigan Chippewas in 3:30 PM kickoff. Bell should be able to put up more efficient running numbers against the Chips, as they struggled to beat FCS level Southeastern Missouri State last Thursday.
