The debate will go one for the next few weeks between which team(s) got the best draw in the NCAA Tournament, and for Michigan State fans, they can’t complain about where the Spartans got seeded.
MSU is the No. 1 seed in the West Region, and with a second-round win over Long Island-Brooklyn, will face the winner between Memphis and Saint Louis in the third round. In the Sweet 16 round, MSU would likely face Louisville, a team that might have won the Big East tournament, but is definitely not a team to be a scared of. Remember how the Spartans whipped them a few years ago in the NCAA Tournament.
That’s not too scary of matchup for Spartans, especially if you look at the other No. 1 seeds.
The Wildcats drew arguably the toughest region despite being the No. 1 overall team in the tournament.
Imagine a third-round game against UConn? Or a Sweet 16 matchup against Indiana, a team that beat Kentucky earlier this season. That’s a tough draw for sure.
Though Syracuse may not have a tough game until the Sweet 16, but no team would want to potentially face Wisconsin, a team that slows it down and tries to punch you in the face for every possession. But who knows, Syracuse could face Vanderbilt in the Sweet 16, a team that just beat Kentucky for the SEC title on Sunday.
Again, probably not a tough road to the Sweet 16 for the Tar Heels, but if they do play Creighton in the third round, that’s a team that can score. As for a potential Sweet 16 draw, the Tar Heels could face Michigan, a team that lives by the 3-point shot. We here at SpartanAvenue might have to root for the Dirty Wolverines if that matchup occurs.
