Can Michigan State make it three wins today against Wisconsin?

It has to be one of the most used cliches in all of sports: It’s hard to beat a good team three times in one season.

That’s what Michigan State will try to do in the Big Ten semifinals today against Wisconsin.

In two games, Michigan State went to overtime in Madison and won by three, and, more or less dominated the Badgers in East Lansing.

But if MSU does beat Wisconsin today, it bodes well for a NCAA Tournament run since the last time the Spartans beat the Badgers three times in one season they went on to win the national title.

While Michigan State played about as well as it has all year, Wisconsin too played a nice game taking out Indiana in the quarterfinals.

It will be all about defense for Tom Izzo and his Spartans today.

“You have to be able to defend and rebound in this tournament because you don’t have many 90-point games in the NCAA tournament or this kind of tournament,” Izzo said, referring to his team’s 92 points it scored against Iowa.

Today’s games

No. 1 Michigan State (25-7) vs. No. 4 Wisconsin (24-8)

  • Time: 1:40 p.m. ET
  • TV: CBS
  • Line: Spartans by 4
  • Prediction: Michigan State 65, Wisconsin 58

No. 2 Ohio State (26-6) vs. No. 3 Michigan (24-8)

This will be a good game as well with Ohio State in the same boat as the Spartans — holding out hope for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Thought Michigan can shoot the ball, it will have to slow Jared Sullinger (who went for 30 on Friday against Purdue).

  • Time: 4:05 p.m. ET

  • Line: Buckeyes by 7.5 points
  • Prediction: Ohio State 75, Michigan 73
