If you asked Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo at the start of the season if he would be happy with a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament, you’d bet he would have been ecstatic.

Funny what a few months can do, eh?
The Spartans are currently ranked in the Top 10 in both major polls and more impressively, are No. 4 in the latest RPI rankings.
But as of today, ESPN’s Joe Lunardi projects Michigan State (17-4) as a No. 3 seed in the East Region. The Spartans would play No. 14-seeded Akron and with a win, would get the winner between No. 6-seeded Murray State and No. 11-seeded Saint Louis. Not a bad draw to get to the Sweet 16.
Of course as a No. 3 seed, you would likely be on a path to play the No. 2 seed in the Round of 16, in Lunardi’s prognostication, that would be North Carolina.
Though there is a ton of games left to determine the NCAA bracket, the Spartans should be pleased with a No. 3 seed for now, but also with the prospects of a No. 2 seed not too far off.
